Volunteer at the Catholic Charities Food Shelf

Feeding the hungry is one of the most extraordinary acts of mercy, and everyone in the community must work toward its completion. Everyone can contribute, from high school students looking to earn community service hours to retirees looking to stay active. At our food shelf, there are various opportunities for volunteers.

Donations

Central Minnesotans are struggling to meet basic needs. Many find themselves searching for food assistance from illness, job loss, or unexpected expenses – to unexpected meal costs. That is where Catholic Charities’ Food Shelf steps in as an emergency resource to stretch individuals’ and families’ limited income.

CCFS food pantry relies heavily on community donations from parish collections, church/citizen food drives, Community Food Bank distributions, and county funding sources; contributions fundamental from annual Corpus Christi food drives held every May-June that aim to keep supplies going during periods when donations drop while needs remain constant.

CCFS runs more than just its regular food pantry; we also operate various other programs. The Food Cooperative helps families stretch limited incomes with monthly supplemental bags of groceries; Bread and Butter Club provides individuals and households with meal-ready staples such as pasta, rice, cereal, canned beans/fish/fruits/juices; frozen vegetables; can fruits; juices, etc. We also operate Food for Seniors: providing nutritional food boxes to those aged 60 and up.

Organization assisting single moms, their children, elderly homebound people, and working poor individuals in Brooklyn and Queens.
