Important Notes Before We Begin

The next time you need to change the oil on your automobile, keep this helpful hint in mind. Some motorists like to start the engine or spin around the block before swapping out the oil. The reason is oil cools off quicker while it’s hot. Remember that burns to the hands and face are possible when working with hot oil. Therefore, take special care when working with heated oil. It’s also not a good idea for newcomers to use this approach.

Simple Methods For Changing Your Car’s Oil

Leave the car where it can rest flat. Slide under your car if there’s enough room. In that case, you can use the jack stands to lift the vehicle.

Now that the car is safely propped up, you may get under it to locate the drain stop. The drain plug is close to the front of the car. Cover the floor with newspaper or a drop cloth to catch any drips.

There should be a pan underneath the plug as well. To remove the plug, use the socket wrench. To manually detach it, turn it counterclockwise and twist. The oil should be drained halfway. The socket wrench should then be used to reinstall the plug.

The oil filter is the last thing to look for; back to using the oil pan as a base. After making sure the oil filter is adequately secured with the oil filter wrench, pull it counterclockwise. To remove the oil filter after loosening it, twist it off by hand.

Before installing the replacement filter, lubricate the rubber gasket with fresh oil. Doing so will keep issues at bay in the future. Replace the old filter by tightly screwing it into the filter pipe.

Following the procedures above, you can get out from beneath your car and pop the hood. To replace the oil filter, remove the cover and insert the funnel. Put in as much motor oil as instructed by the owner’s handbook. After that, you should replace the oil filler cap.

Specify the time and distance traveled. You can use this as a reminder to get the oil changed again at the appropriate intervals.
